Your reputation was built job by job. We’ll help carry it forward.

We buy and invest in painting and coatings businesses, carrying forward the brand, team, and customer relationships you worked so hard to build.

You've made payroll in the slow season, chased overdue invoices, and taken a loss to keep a promise.

After years of putting customers and employees first, you now have options for your next move.

We’ll protect what makes your business special and give it the support it needs to grow, so your people, brand, and customers thrive for years to come.

Our Commitment to Your Brand
You’ve built a brand people trust. We’ll help it grow stronger and remain a symbol of the quality you’re known for.
Our Commitment to Your Team
The people who helped you succeed deserve stability and opportunity, and we’ll make sure they have both.
Michael Trachtenberg started Back Roll Coatings after more than 15 years in investment and transaction roles with Deutsche Bank, Brigade Capital, and Union Place Partners. At Brigade, he led investments in building products and services, covering companies like Sherwin-Williams, PPG, and HD Supply.

Over the years, he saw the value created by owners who know their crews, their customers, and their craft — and the challenges of growing while managing payroll, hiring, and the next big job. He started Back Roll Coatings to enable owners to capture the value they’ve worked hard to build while preserving what makes their business unique.

Michael grew up in Phoenix and now calls Austin home. Outside of work, he’s usually running, hiking, or searching for the best brisket in Texas.

We partner with painting and coatings businesses doing $5M+ in annual sales, anywhere in the US.

We work with contractors who have established trusted relationships in service areas where quality, safety, and reliability are critical, including:

Commercial Painting
Industrial Painting & Coatings
Waterproofing & Sealing
Fire Protective Coatings
Floor Coatings
Sandblasting & Surface Prep

Every owner’s goals are different. We shape the deal to fit yours — whether it’s a full sale, a gradual transition, or a long-term partnership — while protecting your people, your brand, and your customers.

We help find, hire, and train great employees. We also manage compliance, benefits, and other HR details so your team can focus on the work, not red tape.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a deal take?
We can usually give you a clear answer within about five days of learning the basics. Closing typically takes 60 to 90 days, but we’ll move at the pace that works best for you.
What’s my role after closing?
That’s entirely up to you. Some owners stay in a leadership role, while others choose to step back soon after. Either way, the business will have the support and resources it needs to keep thriving.
What happens to my people and customers?
We value the relationships you’ve built over the years. Customers will keep getting the same quality and care, and employees will have opportunities to grow while keeping the culture you created.
What happens to my brand?
The name on your trucks and uniforms — the one your customers trust — isn’t going anywhere. We’ll keep building on the reputation you’ve worked hard to earn.
How do you support the business after investment?
We can handle administrative tasks, keep cash flow steady, help with hiring and training, and fund smart growth — all without disrupting what already works.
Is our discussion confidential?
Absolutely. We’ll sign an NDA before any detailed conversation and keep everything private.
